Lunar Calendars for 2006/2007

People who practice Buddhism have to be vegetarian at least every “初一” and “十五” (1st and 15th of the Chinese month) in the Chinese Calendar.

The coming vegetarian day is:

  • 3/4/2007 (十五 of Jan) - Lantern festival day
  • 3/19/2007 (初一 of Feb)
  • 4/2/2007 (十五 of Feb)
  • 4/17/2007 (初一 of March)

The vegetarian days passed are:

  • 1/19/2007 (初一)
  • 2/2/2007 (十五 of Dec)
  • 2/18/2007 (初一 of Jan - Chinese New Year)

My website www.sino7.com has became extremely slow.

OK…Here is my stories about my 1and1 website servers. I have 2 identical websites on 2 different 1and1 servers…Everything worked fine….A month ago, I found out one is at least 10 times slower than the other one…I contacted 1and1 representative by calling their toll-free number. The representative told that that they were moving my server to another location and she said the website will be fine in a couple days. I forgot to ask for a case number. At least 8 days later, no one gave me any updates. Called again and asked for the new case number. One week later, one guy sent me email saying he doesn’t see the difference. I told him to open it from outside his company Internal network. He did and agreed about the slowness and sent the case to the system administrator. I emailed back one week after that. Then I got an emal 5 days after saying their system administrator tried to solve the issue. They also tried to move mine to a completely new server. They checked to make sure both servers didn’t have any issue. However it was still the same after that and they told me it might be my programming part.

Tried to optimize my webiste my checking all the configuration settings and permissions of my files…..I really have found some improvements but they didn’t matter much and the result didn’t improve at all. Then I had this strange idea that it might be outside of the United States or somewhere very remotely in United States from where I am. At least I want to see where is my website traffic to. What I found out with visualroute (Visualroute.com) (http://visualroute.visualware.com/ for the Live Demo) is……….shockingly, they moved my server to Germany. I could see the route going from United State where I am to England and then Germany. ( I didn’t know where my old server was though )

Now, I just sent another email asking why and who moved my server to there and if they could move it back to United States or have a mirrored server setup in United States for me. It should be done by them in the following business days.

Well, we learn everyday. The good news is that I found out at least they tried and they also backuped my 1and1 weblog and sent the sql file to my server upon my request.

Liberdade district, São Paulo,Brazil (Chinatown around the world)

My Coworker, Pam, showed me where she went for the Chinese New year festival in Liberdade district, São Paulo,Brazil.

São Paulo, Brazil, has no permanent Chinatown, but the Chinese-Brazilian community is centered around the Liberdade district.. Besides being an area famous for its strong Japanese presence, a significant number of Taiwanese immigrants settled in Liberdade, and many Chinese immigrants have come to Liberdade following the Communist revolution in 1949. Many Cantonese from Hong Kong and Portuguese-speaking Macau — including some Macanese of mixed Chinese and Portuguese descent — also settled the place after their return to mainland Chinese rule in 1997 and 1999 respectively. These Macau immigrants can usually speak and understand Portuguese (and sometimes also its creole, Macanese or Patuá), allowing them to adjust more easily to life in Brazil. A very sizeable number of Chinese Indonesians settled the area as refugees when they were violently forced out by Indonesians of Malay descent in the 1960s. Today, Chinese Brazilians usually speak a mixture of Chinese and Portuguese. Japanese and Koreans who have also settled permanently alongside the Chinese community have truly made Liberdade a multi-Asian community.

Chinese New Year - XIN NIAN KUAI LE

Happy New Year to everyone!!! Today it’s the Chinese New Year of the pig. I had my third birthday celebration for this year yesterday and it was also the first celebration for my birthday this year according to the Chinese Calendar. Thank you Miko for the gift and the lovely Birthday Cake with my Chinese name on it. You know exactly the kind of the cake that I like. I loved the cake and the gift so much.
Today, I shared some of the Chinese pudding cake (發榚) (pinyin: Fa-Gao). It is for good luck the New Year.

Facts:
  1. XIN NIAN KUAI LE is exact how it’s pronounced for “Happy New Year” in Chinese (新年快樂) . :-)
  2. Why dog? Becuase it was taken in 2006, the year of the dog.
  3. FELIZ ANO NOVO - Happy New Year in Portugese(Happy year New actually)
Last night, we were so depressed to watch the finale for “Will & Grace”. It was really a good show. It was like saying a goodbye to a best friend. Miko and I had so much fun watching them. However, we didn’t finish the finale last night because we were so tired and also we found out that we are actually missing 2 seaons, season 6 and season 7.

It was so Blockbuster’s fault. We don’t find Season 6 and Season 7 by searching “Will & Grace” in Blockbuster.com. Thought Season 5 was the last one. Now through Netflex.com, I found out there is more seasons for Will & Grace. It happened before for me to find Battlestar Galatica also.

Will & Grace

This is the TV Series for Miko and I. Miko said she likes it for than Friends. It’s very funny. We still have another 8 DVDs to watch before the finale. We started to watch them from the beginning from last year after we came back from Taiwan. I feel so happy because I could understand most of the jokes. You know, we didn’t use English outside the School in Taiwan and I only have been in United States only for 7 years since I was 24.
